Internet guy who believes in the triumph of humanity with a little help from technology. Yadda, yadda, yadda.

Follow the Oscars?
I wasn't planning on watching the Oscars a few weeks ago but the folks who publish Defamer are actually going to the Academy Awards and will be sending out Twitter updates live from the Kodak Theatre during the broadcast.
If you've followed the My Name Is Earl updates by producer Michael Pennie, then you know how fun it is to get weird, behind-the-scenes info from a person close to the show while it's being broadcast.
It's like those bonus DVD commentary tracks except it's being sent to your phone as text messages and it's not a movie—it's a live broadcast. Livy is gonna make a bunch of snacks and we're going to follow defamer while we watch.
To do the same, just text FOLLOW DEFAMER to 40404. Or, visit the Defamer profile on Twitter and click "add" in the sidebar (join first if you don't have an account.) See you at the Oscars, kid.

JetBlue Founder and CEO on YouTube
Last week was crappy for jetBlue and they botched a lot of stuff up. The founder put a video on YouTube in which he honestly connects with customers. Comments are good. It was a good move. More companies should roll like this. Not every CEO has the chops for this—the key is that you have to care.

An Obvious Experiment
Odeo is an interesting and popular web property which Obvious will continue to be proud of going forward. Nevertheless, as of today, we're open to a variety of scenarios which would result in Odeo finding it's true awesomeness independent of Obvious. Yes, that's my way of saying Odeo is for sale. Note: Our plan is to find Odeo an awesome home—otherwise we keep her at Obvious. Ev has posted some thoughtful details about this decision.

Cool Site: SXSW Baby!
SXSW Baby! is a blog that Ev helped start seven years ago and I'm just coming across it now. Crazy. Good site though—check it out if you're heading to Austin next month.

On Google's Jewishness
The Story of Sergey Brin: "Google’s emphasis on academic achievement—hiring only the best and the brightest and employing hundreds of Ph.D.s—could be considered Jewish."

It's Official
Today was Jason Goldman's first day at Obvious and I have a new-to-me but gently used bicycle in my garage. A good day all around even with that weird prank call from Dunstan. I like it when a plan comes together!
Nixd
Mixed.yahoo.com is closing down: "Thanks for being a part of the Mixd pilot study. On February 25th, we'll end the pilot and the service will no longer be available. Please be sure to download any pictures you want to save before February 25th."

DRIVE on FOX
My friend Greg Yaitanes teamed up with Tim Minear (Firefly!) and Ben Queen on a new series launching in April. Greg directed and produced. The idea is that there's this huge, underground cross country auto race happening on the freeways and highways that most people have no idea about.
So, that guy who just cut you off in traffic? He's not actually a jackass, he's racing for his life! I saw some rough opening shots of the pilot and it's really cool. The idea that there's all this drama going on in the cars around us every day is a neat idea.

PocketWookie
PocketWookie is awesome. Also? Now I wanna make gingerbread wookies! Those would be rad. Plus wookie rhymes with cookie which is 100% pure bonus.

Scripting News Updates
I'm liking the tweaks Dave is doing to Scripting News. He's got simple but great-looking permalink pages and a great bio in the sidebar. His bio is made extra fancy with testimonials from the New York Times, Time Magazine, and Tim O'Reilly. Not everyone has that kind of material to work with!

Apple Calls for DRM Free Music
Steve Jobs: "Convincing them to license their music to Apple and others DRM-free will create a truly interoperable music marketplace. Apple will embrace this wholeheartedly."
Film Rights? Optioned!
Los Angeles Times: "authorities were planning to charge a NASA astronaut with attempted first-degree murder charges for allegedly attacking a woman that she considered her rival for the love of another astronaut"

We Got Goldman!
Jason Goldman officially starts work on Monday at Obvious world headquarters. Part of the deal is I get to buy his old bicycle at a discounted rate. Also, we will be arranging the desks in such a way as to minimize any accidental breakouts of "baked potato voice guy" during normal work hours. W00t!
"Blog Cabin"
The DIY Network is doing a promo called "Blog Cabin."
"Users can blog about logs and vote on design elements at DIYnetwork.com beginning Feb. 5." Wacky.
