Uh-oh, We Did It Again

The very idea of Twitter has once again ruffled the feathers of a technology columnist. You can add "Twitter is a bad, bad thing" to Andrew Kantor's "Things I've Said" page on his personal web site. Alphabetically, I believe it belongs after, "They've got Preparation H up the wazoo." Incidentally, those would make great Twitter updates.

Somewhere in the middle of the article Andrew admits that, "people like this idea. People other than me, anyway." However, he ends on a low note saying that After a few days of reading 'I'm choosing a shirt to wear' or 'I think I like vanilla,' I'd be ready to find a rifle and a clock tower." I'll bet he didn't actually try Twitter. Because, depending on the friend,—that info can be good stuff.

Twitter is all about people connecting the dots between each other, one follower and friend at a time. Watching the human dynamics and evolution of an idea is a fun experience.

Someone called the theme of this year's ETech, "Silicon Valley discovers the humanities," because of all the interest in the social and game theory aspects of software. Maybe tech reviewers need to discover the humanities. It's especially disturbing that the reviewer saw that many people are enjoying Twitter. Isn't it his job to then find out what reasons and usefulness those people are experiencing?

Twitter allows me to feel more connected to my friends on a daily basis. Even though I may not want to call them, I'd still like to know what they are up to.
