I wish these were all on my TiVo: Apple - Movie Trailers. In fact, I wish there were more to watch on TiVo. Maybe they could pick up discarded pilots for cheap? Web stuff? Something.

Ideas Are Free
Dave wants tinyurl built into Google Maps and I've wanted it rolled into New York Times in some way for a while. Maybe somebody can whip up a bookmarklet or Greasemonkey script so we can use tinyurl like maniacs? That'd be nice.

Revenge by Blog
The Broken Laptop I Sold on Ebay should be a Blogger blog of note. Somebody sold this guy a broken laptop on Ebay. He managed to get the photos off and he's uploading them to the web with snarky commentary as if he's the guy who did the selling.

Invisibility Cloak from 'Metamaterials'
Theoretical Blueprint for Invisibility Cloak Reported: "'The cloak would act like you've opened up a hole in space,' said David R. Smith, Augustine Scholar and professor of electrical and computer engineering at Duke's Pratt School. 'All light or other electromagnetic waves are swept around the area, guided by the metamaterial to emerge on the other side as if they had passed through an empty volume of space.'
Electromagnetic waves would flow around an object hidden inside the metamaterial cloak just as water in a river flows virtually undisturbed around a smooth rock, Smith said."

Mathatronics Mathatron
Ladies and gentlemen allow me to introduce the Mathatronics Mathatron. Irv's boss at the Exploratory Development Lab of United Carr, Inc. in Kendal Square, Cambridge bought this beauty in 1966 so they could calculate their sometimes complex experiments. And thus began Irv's long history with computers which you can read all about on his blog.

Today's Itinerary
I'm two hours early for my three hour flight from Tampa to Chicago where I'll wait for three hours before boarding a three hour flight to Oakland. I'll be home eating a midnight snack by, um, midnight.

Futuristic Robot Fish for Pools
It'd be neat if there were a school of robotic fish that cleaned your pool kinda like the Roomba vacuums your house. I know there are already robot pool cleaners but I'm picturing a school of small mechanical fish that swim around untethered in realistic fashion.

Real Widgets
If I had an industrial design firm and nothing to do all day it might be fun to create real, hand-held versions of Apple Dashboard widgets. For example, a glassy desk accessory with a bluetooth connection to the web displaying the weather. Or a calculating device that looks just like the shiny orange widget calculator. Maybe even a glossy plastic calendar of the red, white, and orange variety.
Yes, they are overkill designy junk but they'd look pretty.

La La Land
I drove down to Los Angeles for a party yesterday and now I'm at a Starbucks. Natalie Portman was just sitting here for a while but she left. Not sure what I'm going to do today, might catch a movie and get something to eat at one of my favorite restaurants here: Real Food Daily or Native Foods. I can't hang out at my hotel because it's too swanky—I'm bringing the hipster curve way down.

Free Alaa!
Rabble's Egyptian Blogger Friend was kindapped and is trouble. There's a campaign among bloggers starting up to get him freed. Seems like a good post for Blogger Buzz.

Thinking About Email
Lots of people are using web-based email like Gmail these days. Most of my email is short, quick stuff but sometimes I write longer, more thoughtful pieces—mostly at work (we use Gmail). Later, in other longer emails I might want to reference the previous thoughtful piece. To do that, I need to actually copy and paste it in the new email.
What if email had permalinks? Then I could just reference my other email with a link similar to how a wiki works. In fact, it occurs to me that variations on email—giving it powers of blogging, wiki, IM (already happening in Gmail), voicemail, and a version that's just out there making anything possible could be useful going forward.

Meet The Odeos
How do you like the new Odeo and the Odeo Studio? With a few touches here and there we tried to make the Studio look kinda shiny and appy. On the main Odeo site, there's a renewed focus on listening.
The idea for splitting the site in two really started to heat up while trying to figure out how to design one site that does two different things. Thinking visually about audio on the web is interesting.

The Wise Old Owl
The wise old owl lived in an oak;
The more he saw the less he spoke;
The less he spoke the more he heard:
Why can't we all be like that bird?

This Guy is Gonna Be Huge
John Hodgman is the author of The Areas of My Expertise, a book that I own in part because it reminded me of my old web site Supertectonics. I love serious fake information.
Anywhoo, John was a guest on The Daily Show last year to promote his book and he was such a great personality that they hired him to be their Resident Expert. Now he's one of the highlights of the show. And he just landed the role as PC in the new Apple Ads.
Geeky culture is on it's way towards taking over American culture so I'm pretty sure we can look forward to seeing a lot more of John Hodgman. I see a big summer movie or his own series in his future.

What Should I Do with Blogging.biz?
When I wrote my first book, I set up Blogging.biz as a companion site. The domain is up for renewal again so I wondered what else I could do with it. Here are some ideas:
- Put the domain name on ebay
- Launch a wiki powered user-to-user blogging help forum
- Create a business blogging search engine type deal
- Put a whole bunch of my blogging-related essays up
