Victimized by Crime

My low-end but still pretty nice Marin bicycle was stolen tonight from the Berkeley campus. I locked it up to check out Telegraph St which I heard was a fun place. (It's crazy down there!). Anyway, I had to a walk home holding my helmet—which I will now pretend is a futuristic fruit bowl.

When Will It Be Available!?

Wi-Fi enabled 1GB SD card turns any old digital camera into a wi-fi device! (So you can get your photos onto your computer without any cables.) This will result in a lot more photos uploaded to Flickr—by me at least.

Hmm

Maybe phones are using us to call each other.

Two Ideas

  1. A phone service which tricks people into thinking you are a multi-faceted genius. Here's how it works: You go to a web site, enter your phone number, and choose what type of genius you want to seem like (fluent in Italian, Doctor, Rocket Scientist). Later when you are in the company of friends or co-workers, your phone rings. Just repeat what the voice on the other end of the phone is saying. In this manner you will sound like you are responding to an Italian relative, talking a fellow doctor through emergency surgery, or consulting with NASA about an untested Mars lander.
  2. Radio Shack should rebrand itself to be more in line with the whole MAKE culture.

Okay, back to the Lab.

Flag Days

Back at Google, I helped design and define our Flagging Feature: "This feature allows the blogging community as a whole to identify content they deem objectionable. Have you read The Wisdom of Crowds? It's sort of like that." Today I noticed Xanga is implementing a flagging feature. The incredibly direct connection to the community that John has is awesome. I love how he uses his xanga to run features by xangans. Recently, we set up a forum at Odeo but it lacks depth of character. We'll tend to that. Also, we need to podcast more.

Marty Nemko: Racist or Jackass?

Anarchogeek says Marty Nemko is a racist because of a show that really ruffled his feathers this morning. I'm not convinced Marty's a racist because of his radio persona but I've emailed with him before and his email persona is that of a jackass.

Update: Uh-oh, this is gonna get Rabble going. I just dug up an essay by Marty Nemko at Mens Daily News titled Are White Males Getting Shortchanged? From the essay:
We are constantly urged to make greater efforts to improve the lot of women and African-Americans. Yet it seems fairer at this point in American history to make greater efforts to improve the lot of white males.

Professional baseball, football, and basketball are dominated by minorities. Ever hear the media decry the underrepresentation of white males?

So, next time you hear a plea to support women and blacks, you might save just a little kindness for the not-so-terrible, no-longer so privileged white male.

Money And Friends

We had some tofu scramble brunch and then headed over to a great little theatre in Berkeley and saw a movie called Money And Friends starring Jennifer Aniston, Francis McDormand, and other good folks. Good writing too.

The reason we went was to try out the theatre and I loved it. Reminds me of the West Newton. When a movie house is filled up with a bunch of old people or kids I know I'm in the right place. I'm psyched that it's so close to the house. There are more like it in the Neighborhood too.

Landmark movie theatres and tons of vegan restaurants. Buying a house in Berkeley was a good call.

Increase Your AdSense Earnings from $10-$1700 Per Day

Inside AdSense: Meet Ivan the optimiser -- but please, no paparazzi: Let me clue you in on the Google lingo. "Blended colors" means "make the ads look exactly like your content so readers get tricked." Turns out that is the best way to maximize your earnings. Blended colors and mix the ads right into your content.

TiVo Wordsmith

There's a new game on my updated TiVo software called Wordsmith. It's like Scrabble but you can play it by yourself. It's keeping me up at night but it's fun! I wonder when TiVo is gonna get into the online multiplayer games—that could be cool. Poker or something would be doable over TiVo.
