Upcoming.org on a TiVo. I'm not a very big consumer of events. (I don't get out much.) However, I do want more fun stuff on my TiVo so I'm into this.

Bagels and Notes
This morning we had bagels from Izzy's on California Ave which I had to drive to because I've banned the Noah's on University. They have bad service. But Izzy's Brooklyn Bagels? Forget about it! They know their stuff. It's a long line at 7:30 am but it moves quick. The guy in front of me stumbled through his order but when my turn was up I was ready. Here's how it went down.
"Two Salt. Two Onion. Two Garlic."Then I was out. I'm only telling you this because I downloaded this neat little application called Sidenote that Stowe told me about yesterday at TagCamp. I just started typing and that's what came out. I think I like this little thing. Also, I like bagels.

I Met the Imeem Guy at TagCamp
About Imeem!: "Imeem is a new online service that lets you easily communicate with your friends and family and find new people and groups over the internet." Seems that it makes sharing your stuff somewhat private so you'll feel a little more comfortable using various web services like Flickr and Blogger and Odeo. I have yet to check it out which is why I'm blogging it now.

Norma
Livy and I went out for dinner at Millennium and then to Norma at the San Francisco Opera. I wore a suit. Fancy! At the end they decided it would be a good idea to walk into a funeral pyre but at certain parts I was chuckling. Good times.

Cloud Nine
A strange euphoria came over me today and I couldn't quite figure out exactly what it was. Ev told me, "That's what it feels like when people are using your stuff!" He's totally right. What a great couple of weeks we've just had. Hiring Dom away from Macromedia turned out to be key to shipping a vision with which I am very much aligned.
Now we've got a private beta of our Create tools running and people seem to be using it just how we hoped. In fact, I spent the morning sending out quick one-minute odeos to my friends and family. Working at Odeo is even more idea-friendly than Google. We triage ideas! We went from an Omnigraffle mockup to a beta product in a few weeks. I'm getting really psyched.

We Shipped
Odeo shipped beta Create tools to all existing users today. Here's a little something about that.

That's Kinda Neat
Stanford iTunes: "Stanford University and Apple® are pleased to offer university-related audio content via iTunes®."
Gaggling
I'm really not so good at filing. I usually just let files accumulate on my desktop and the dump them all in a folder called "stuff." Pictured above is my desktop with some files that I've generated this week. I've started sweeping them into piles and that gave me an idea. It'd be neat if there were some software I could download for my powerbook that would look at the files for relatedness and slowly group them together like this on my desktop during the week so I could see what was happening. Then, on Saturday morning this software would build some folders for me, organize my stuff, and send me an email with a summary of what it did.

Odeo Offsite
Today was the first ever Odeo offsite. A sailing trip across the bay. At no point was I nervous. It was great fun I tell you. Great fun. I'm sure you'll see lots more photos on Flickr soon. I think everyone on board had at least two digital cameras on them the whole time.

Duly Recognized
Podcasting for regular people requires a few key ingredients. Ev sums up what we've been thinking about recently. Years of explaining Xanga and Blogger have also shown me that most people using these services are not interested in becoming a superstar on the web (although that is always an option). People seek compelling ways to communicate with the folks that matter to them and it's a good bet that's how they'll want to use Odeo too. Okay, back to work.

This Guy Is Totally Objectifying Toasters
The first commenter is as witty as the author. This is a play in one post via Jen Garrett. It's about the foibles caused by new technology and the disruption among inanimates that upgrading can cause. Like Toy Story but in one blog post and no pretty pictures. A telling scenario for the iPod generation. Perfect for short attention spans like mine.

Our Place Is More Cozy Now
Since moving into our place in Palo Alto last March we pretty much never did anything besides plop a couch down and shove some boxes in the extra room. This weekend we breezed through IKEA and Target and junked the place up a bit. Now it's a much cozier place to to be for now.

I Feel Fancy
Noah and I were invited to a Mayfield Fellows thing in Wallenberg Hall at Stanford today. It's too bad we couldn't stay longer, those kids are mad smart. Also, I've been invited to speak at Harvard next month which is pretty cool, according to me.

Recharge Gadgets Wirelessley
Splashpower wants to cut the charger cord: "Splashpower Ltd., established as the result of a business competition at Cambridge University, has developed a wireless charging system that uses electromagnetic induction to accomplish wireless charging of devices." Right now it's a pad but in the future it'd be cool if you could buy a beautiful metallic bowl for all your gadgets that also charges them.

Get More Comments
Blogger launches Backlinks—they're comments from people who didn't actually leave a comment. If somebody links to your post in their post then you get backlinks. The feature is based on the link: operator of Blog Search. Note: sites linking to your blog will need to be indexed by Blog Search so there may be a slight delay before the backlinks appear on your blog.
Party At Swig
I'm looking through Ray's photos of the party we co-hosted last night and I see all these folks I would have liked to talk to. Didn't even see them there! It was crowded and loud.
