I'm not a pulp man. I like my orange juice smooth and cool. Occasionally, I will accidentally buy some juice that has added pulp. Well, I did that today and I got to thinking about the history of packaged orange juice and the whole idea of marketing pulp like it is some kind of benefit. It seems to me, the first time I took note of this pulp craze was around the time Back To The Future came out. A visit to the official Tropicana web site proves me right, HomeStyle was introduced in 1985. Incidentally, that was the same year New Coke was introduced and I think it was also the beginning of all the diversification of long-standing products. How many kinds of Cheerios do we need? Whatever. I have to go find a strainer.
Internet guy who believes in the triumph of humanity with a little help from technology. Yadda, yadda, yadda.

Terrorism or Non?
Noah points out that smoking is more dangerous and far deadlier to the American public than Terrorism. What if we just made a Terrorism Section? Nice, I think I just solved the whole deal.

Blazing My Own Path
I'm thinking of getting a blazer. Maybe not at Banana Republic but still. I'd look legit.
Hot Air
Case snapped one of me sidetalking at work. For the uninitiated, sidetalking is funny stuff. A good, wholesome time that can be had anytime, anywhere. Nice.

She Is The Lisa
Yesterday's profile browsing post about two blogger users who share some interests has taken an interesting turn. She is the Lisa.

Doh!
I just got a call from Susan at the DMV. She said they gave me the wrong plates. I have to go back, turn in my newly acquired CA plates and do it all over again to get the right ones. She has also mysteriously lost one of my forms so I need to get both Livia's and my signatures on that again. I'm gonna see if I can find it online. I think this will make it the sixth or seventh trip. Nice!
Mock Voting
EUobserver.com: "'More people in the UK voted in Channel 4's Big Brother than in the European Parliament elections', ..." Just for fun, the producers of the American Idol viewer voting system should run a mock presidential vote. It'd be interesting to see who would win.
Browsing Profiles
He plays fiddle, she plays violin. He likes dancing, she likes jumping. He likes fending off dragons and she likes throwing blunt objects at god. Who knows, maybe there's a Blogger connection?
Cicada Invasion
Urb's Blog: "Well after 17 years the little Red Eyed Monsters are Back creating fear and a heck of a lot of noise. posted are some photos of them from my back yard."

The New Yorker
The Talk of the Town: "Suddenly, books by bloggers will be a trend, a cultural phenomenon." Um, yeah. That's what I'm saying. Nice.

GTray
Elias Torres has written a little Windows app that gets you into your Gmail even faster: "GTray, will open a browser window and log you directly into your specified Gmail account." He also took care to add heavy disclaimers:
I'm not responsible for anything this software does incorrectly to your system. I have no documentation for it, no support, nothing. Also, Google has nothing to do with this application.
I'm on a Mac so I can't try it out. It sounds like a fancier version of what I do. I keep FireFox in my dock and I made the default home page my Gmail. Then I just pretend the little fox-and-globe icon is my email icon and I'm all set.
Steven Heller on Blogs
Cool, the latest issue of Print magazine features an article about blogging. Heller starts out saying he hates blogs and ends saying that they're part of the fabulous future of design writing online. He mentions Andy Crewdson's Lines and Splines which has been gone for years and was really cool.

Exploding Book
I love Sam Brown's work and Graham just let me know that he spotted one of his illustrations on a book cover. Nice! This is despite the fact that when asked if he will do illustration work, Sam's canned response is: "I will probably say yes and then never do it." Well, I guess he did it.
Annotated Family History Pictures
What a cool use of Blogger's new photoblogging feature: "Here are some pictures of various people from my family tree. Some people are only tenuously connected to me. Some photographs are quite recent. All have a story to tell, at least to me! Please bear with me as I gradually update titles, descriptions and add to the collection."
Almost
I've been to the DMV almost every morning this week. It seems there's always at least one detail that's missing from my paperwork. Yesterday I would have had my CA plates after the inspection but I needed Livia's signature. So I brought back the form today. Today was my fault, after waiting an hour they finally called B051. I was B071. I waited another fifteen minutes with no more B's called. When I started fantasizing about the various ways I could kill the guy standing right up next to me making clucking noises with his tounge I made an executive decision to bail. I'll try again on Monday.

Wired on Gmail Swap
Wired News: My Left Arm for a Gmail Account. The "photo of a wife and a girlfriend kissing" offer was particularly funny because it went so fast. By the way, we put the Gmail invite back in the Blogger Dashboard.
Has Andy Kaufman Returned?
I just checked Snopes:
Well, there you go. Still, if you want to judge for yourself, just visit Andy Kaufman Returns.
Claim: Comedian Andy Kaufman has returned, twenty years after faking his death.
Status: False.

Fresh Knowledge
I just published another Blogger Knowledge article about photoblogging. Free, unlimited photo hosting from IM to Blogger. Go read all about it, it's good stuff.
The New York Times on Blogger
To Woo Impatient Novices, Google Tweaks Its Blogger: "Google says that with Blogger, it takes less than five minutes to get started with Web publishing. A trial run suggested it could take less than three, not counting the time required to come up with the perfect brand name for your fledgling media outlet." Cool, I guess that's going to be in tomorrow's Circuits.

Do You Power Blogger?
When Ev first showed me the "I Power Blogger" button I thought it was the bees knees. We all decided it should be rocked out with this latest release and replace the older "Powered by Blogger" button. Just now, I wondered what the reaction from people might be so I turned to Technorati:
I love those reactions.
- "An 'I Power Blogger' button instead. How adorably empowering."
- "I power Blogger, you know."
- "The little 'I power Blogger' button is really cool!"
- "The 'I Power Blogger' attitude of the Blogger guys is just cool."
- "Blogger's new slogan is 'I power blogger' which is completely true."
- "I especially like the new icon that says 'I power blogger.'"
- "I Power Blogger. Ha ha."
- "And the edges were rounded! So I thought to myself, 'Al Qaeda!'"
- "I Power Blogger, Interesting."
- "Apparently there was some Bolshevik-esque weblog publishing revolution over the weekend."
- "I do indeed power Blogger and have gone unrecognized for lo these many months."
- "I power Blogger. WTF?"
- "Oh, and btw, this 'I Power Blogger' button is even gayer than Rock Hudson."
I love those reactions.

Google Broadcasting Company
The Spoof - Google fans want their GMTV: "GBC will present tech-targeted sitcoms, dramedies and biopics beginning with Larry's Kinky Keyword Day, a film starring Jack Black as Google co-founder Larry Page. The star-studded movie will feature the popularity of search phrases such as Britney Spears lesbian kiss, Janet Jackson exposed nipple and George Bush clown school." Hah, Sounds good!
Profile Me
I'm profile/136 at Blogger. (The French already know this.) Of course, this is nowhere near the Blogger-geek cred that comes with profile/1. Nevertheless, we take what we can get.

DIY MIni-Flashlight
Boing Boing linked to the world's most Minimalist flashlight and it costs $25. Genius Labs invented this deal years ago. All you gotta do is pluck one of those cheap white holiday lights off the string and wrap the two wires around the + and - heads on the 9 volt and you got the same damn thing. Only brighter.
Meetings
This photo entitled Evan Williams and Biz Stone in Google Meeting Room by Stewart Butterfield proves that I pay attention in meetings. (So long as they are about things that I think are cool and fun.)

What Is Wrong with People?
They're mean. Check this out. Some woman was moving to a place that didn't allow pets so she brought her five-year-old dog to a shelter to be euthanized. After the deed, a shelter worker then threw the dog's body in the dumpster (under New Jersey state law, throwing a euthanized dog in the trash is legal) and the garbage man discovered her alive and well in the back of the truck after he had dumped out most of the waste into a landfill. Lady, what's with you? How's your Cruella DeVille-ness?
Taxes and DMV
I have got to get a CA license and do my taxes. "Don't get arrested" is at the top of my To-do list today. After enormously important Blogger related tasks, of course.

Just Some Prisoners?
FUN11B's Yafro Moblog: "Yes, they were treated fairly. They are only in our hands for a few hours before they get turned over to a holding cell. I know, it's terrible what happened. It's ignorant, stupid people, like the ones shown on the press, that make us look bad for what we are doing over here. And those are the men and women who aren't actually out here, capturing the bad guys, putting their lives on the line. That really pisses me off."

The Web Is Dead
The information is the name of the game, but when it becomes too large and unwieldy what happens? I'll tell you what: the Web is dead, Fred. The cost of it all will amount to seven percent of the gross national product and we can't dismiss the fact that people want value for money. That's why those in the know always insist on the principle of information retrieval charges. Do you see how I'm right about that? This crazy post has been brought to you by the wacky stylings of Evhead/Play/Music and the latest hit single, The Web Is Dead. (Which, by the way, is not true because I happen to know that like stem-cell teeth, it's growing back.) Nice.

Fred Durst's Xanga Blog?
MTV News is reporting that Limp Bizkit's Fred Durst is tapping out his frustrations, fears, and troubles on a Xanga site. I wonder if that has anything to do with Xanga being down right now. Too many Xangans giving him eprops? Here's the MTV article: Durst Slams 'Poser With A Keyboard': "In order to separate Limp Bizkit news from his thoughts and feelings about everything else, Durst has launched a blog at www.xanga.com/americanalien."
Guns May Be Dangerous
Gun Saftey Presenter Shoots Self: "He then pulled back the slide and asked an audience member to look inside the gun and confirm it wasn't loaded. Witnesses said when the agent released the slide, one shot fired into the top of his left thigh. The gun was pointed at the floor."
Cricket Cola
I spotted this stuff in The Good Life grocery store in Potrero Hill where I live and I wanted to buy it because of the great design on the label. But I didn't. However, a few days later I discovered we have it at work. Sometimes. I love it. That's right folks, Cricket Cola is recommended by both Genius Labs and Google, Inc. The Google part is unofficial of course as my thoughts and opinions on diet cola mixed with green tea are mine alone and not those of my employer. Nevertheless, I hope to enjoy a bottle this afternoon.
Yeah, Sometimes
Being Jennifer Garrett: "The world, though a foul and unlovable place, sometimes has its charms."

Yes, the number mentioned in Google's IPO papers of 2.718282... (billion) is the base of the natural system of logarithms. See, math can be funny. Not funny ha ha but still. Funny. Kinda. No?
