I'm not a pulp man. I like my orange juice smooth and cool. Occasionally, I will accidentally buy some juice that has added pulp. Well, I did that today and I got to thinking about the history of packaged orange juice and the whole idea of marketing pulp like it is some kind of benefit. It seems to me, the first time I took note of this pulp craze was around the time Back To The Future came out. A visit to the official Tropicana web site proves me right, HomeStyle was introduced in 1985. Incidentally, that was the same year New Coke was introduced and I think it was also the beginning of all the diversification of long-standing products. How many kinds of Cheerios do we need? Whatever. I have to go find a strainer.
