I just looked at the bloggercam that Shellen set up and I see my green bag in the lower right corner. Yup. That's my bag right there which means I left my stuff at work. Damn.

How Not To Get Fired for Blogging
Ripped from the headlines, How Not to Get Fired Because of Your Blog. Also, my next book Who Let The Blogs Out? (Available November 1st 2004 from St Martin's Press) will feature a section on this very subject called "Blogging off the Company Pier." There are ways to go about blogging at work and there are ways to get fired for it. A tiny bit of forethought goes a long way.

What To Do When Your Mom Discovers Your Blog is helping a lot of bloggers sort out family issues surrounding their blog. This week we're gonna tackle another issue that bloggers need to know. Knowledge is power.

"Organica.us crawls weblogs and makes statistics on what's popular right now, related sites, who links to who, which tools are being used, webservers being used for weblogs and so on."
In the future, our online lives will take the form of a lucid dream. We are conscious and yet still capable of impossible feats. Like Neo in The Matrix. Theoretically.
I'm sitting on a beanbag in my empty place writing with my iBook and wondering why I didn't drive to the Googleplex were everything is ergonomically evaluated, all the technology is superfantastic, and there are convienience store sized kitchens around every corner. And massage chairs. And gyms. And large rubber spheres. Maybe my mind knows something that I don't.

My first day at Google was mostly orientation, setting up stuff, and meeting people. My new work email is biz@google.com which is neat and I have access to tons of really cool internal stuff. Eric told me to watch out for Segways blasting around corners and I kept getting lost in the Googleplex but I survived. They gave me a ThinkPad with XP instead of a PowerBook with X but I was able to muddle through. My ID picture is really bad--crooked glasses and a confused look on my face. Whatevah.

Christian Walters has a great review of Blogging: Genius Strategies for Instant Web Content over at Bookslut. I like the review because it describes the book exactly as I was hoping it would turn out. Nice!

I’m sitting on borrowed patio furniture in my empty new place in San Francisco. It’s raining and I hear wind chimes. Are they actual wind chimes or are the raindrops trying to communicate with me from the future through some kind of enigmatic water song? This is a question I leave unanswered as I attempt to set up a makeshift office for tomorrow. There’s a book I’m supposed to write.

Nebraska is plush. I’m in a Country Suite in Lincoln, NE. There’s an internet connection, laundry, gym, and a really nice room. A far cry from yesterday’s Knights Inn (Indiana) with the overly friendly Iraqi manager: “I am from Iraq but I am catholic. F***ing Sadam. I hate him.” I believe you, where’s my room? I didn’t audioblog last night because I was too weirded out. Okay, I drove all day and I am psyched for this clean looking shower. Also: today is my little sister’s birthday: Happy birthday Sofie!
