FOR SALE: MARKETING SOFTWARE. When hyper intelligent programmers create free, useful tools like Bloglet or Sideblog and then realize that they can't support them on their own without quitting their jobs they should hang out a shingle: sell those bad boys on eBay. What you have there my friends, among other things, is a way to reach people. Your users aren't paying and they won't mind an unobtrusive targeted advertising link. Monsur, Chris: get while the gettin's good! Either that, or quit your job, hire a support staff, and run that business. I'm down with that too.

I'm really liking Blogosphere.us. The tipping point for me was when they fixed the CSS tabs so they worked on my Safari. Now I'm living in the blogosphere on a four hour basis. Nice.
With E-mail Dying, RSS Offers Alternative: "Now all publishers need to do is figure out how to make a business of RSS content distribution." And when they do, I say we call it: R$$. Nice!
Yeah, I know its supposed to be for the kids but I like to watch MythQuest on Saturday mornings. And the other night I was rewatching The Power of Myth. At Genius Labs, we like to stay up on the latest Mythical developments.

It seems that blogs and IM have a bright future. Not only can we blog via IM, but users can also use IM to be notified when a favorite blog is updated, and now we have Instant Gratification - Visitor notification using AIM for blog owners. Cool stuff.
A version of the Magical Slogan Maker would be good as a blog tag line generator.
Canada bans passport smiles: "Canadians must send a photo with 'a neutral expression -- that means no laughing, smiles, frowning,' said ministry spokeswoman Suzanne Meunier."
Now looks like a good time for Genius Labs to acquire Molly Inc. for untold millions.
Yahoo! to buy Blog hosting company: "Names such as Xanga and TypePad are possibilities."

Yahoo! Korea provides blogging services. I wonder when other Yahoo!'s will do the same. I took some Yahoo! Blogs screenshots for your enjoyment. Notice all the traditional blogging stuff: profile, favorites list, posting calendar, xml feed, commenting, etc. Pretty nice. See also: Yahoo dips its toes in the blogging waters.
Art imitates life. This Calvin and Hobbes hits a little too close to home. Bill Waterson has clearly wiretapped Genius Labs. I may have to send out legions of nanorobots on tiny jet packs to find the bug. Highly expensive, yes. But worth every penny.
Finding Comfort in Strangers With an Online Diet Journal: "Created with software that requires no knowledge of Web design, blogs feature short, frequent updates arranged chronologically, a format that lends itself to long-term weight-loss projects."

I remember reading somewhere about monks long ago that devised an innovative method of "hyperlinking" by attaching strings from one page in a book to another page, or another book. In such a way they created a knowlege management system. I can't find it, maybe I didn't read it on the Web? Can anyone help with this?

TechTV | Get Your Blog Tools Here. I wish I had cable these days, I'd watch this.
Dropload: "Recipients you specify are sent an email with instructions on how to download the file." The instructions part is great and I hope they plan on expanding this. A chart showing what all the different document extensions (.doc, .xls, .pdf, .ppt, etc.) are including what other applications you could use to open those documents if you don't have the right one would rock. Take it a few steps further: guarantee that users will be able to open any file and they've got a revolutionary product.

Amy Langfield's New York Notebook is an example of some really great personal publishing during the blackout. She detailed her experience in her blog. Amy should be a guest on Good Morning America. To make it a whole show, Charlie and Diane, I'm happy to come by and expain blogging. No charge. Just an iced coffee before we roll. Nice.

Wow, I remember her asking what blogging was all about and now sickcandy is bloggerati. She's got great design, customized comments, a hep tagline, popdown archives, a matching blogger button, a sitemeter account, an about page, a contact link, and she's mastered the right aligned images in posts. Next thing you know she'll have atomz search, blogroll, and a sideblog. She's obviously gifted: she dyed the slipcover on her couch. Only pros can pull that off.
This Zombie Infection Simulation shows how a few simple rules can accomplish a seemingly hypercomplex task. So cool. It's stuff like this that will enable us to create a viable environment on Mars with one shipment of robot insects.

I took my sideblog and blogads down for a bit. Do not be alarmed. Act as you naturally would. It's just that my blog-house started to feel messy. When I get a chance I need to think about a new look.

Calculator Rocks Blogosphere: News at Eleven. When Google makes a calculator, math is fun! look, I can almost spell my name with numbers. See what I'm saying? Crazy fun.
This Wooden Mirror (picture) is so cool. Its a camcorder attached to a Mac hooked up to servomotors that angle pinewood panels enough to catch roomlight in such a way as to generate the image captured by the camcorder -- and its animated. This project is five years old but its the first I'm hearing of it thanks to Blogdex.

BlogWeaver integrates directly with Blogger.com to give you a visual editor. (Mac users need not apply.)

What ever became of the Popdex Logo Design Contest? I sent in my concept as soon as I heard about it (which happens to have been on the alleged last day of the contest). Were there any other submissions? Popdex users want to know. Okay, maybe its only me.
Starbucks Everywhere - Wellesley: "If pursued by ruffians, you can duck into this Starbucks, [grab] a DoubleShot, leave a few bills on the counter, and escape down the long hallway leading to the back door. With luck, your pursuers will be delayed as they marvel at the angled wall that makes the space appear curved." Ah yes, my daily routine.
"My Media List lets you remotely manage a list of music, books, films or videogames on your blog or website. It can be embedded anywhere on your webpage and can be easily configured to fit the existing design of your site." Nice!
Site Meter is using the new AdSense customization features in an innovative way. Instead of matching the site colors, the Google Ads change radically every time you visit a page. I'm guessing this is so we won't get used to the look and tune out. Wacky.

Aug 10, 2003

The example used in the new customization features of the Google AdSense program is exactly the size I want. If they would offer that little 150x60 box as a third option (the other two are banner and skyscraper) I would love it! I took down my Google Ads because they were too big. But checking ad stats, and everything else involved with the program was supah easy and actually fun. Stats and customization are good times. Everyone knows it.

Chris has created an ongoing collage of moblog photos. Nice work!
Mural, mural on the wall : "The work of artist Alex Cook, the new mural features a tree with rambunctious children swinging from its branches. Inexplicably, a dog stands on a box on the highest branch, and a bottle of wine sits surrounded by three apples beside the tree." Inexplicably? Highly explicable if you know Alex! I wonder if he is using the same wind I am using.

"It'd be neat if someone made a little GoogleClip feature for business bloggers." They did: Google News Alerts.
Oh man, somebody left an old shoe on top of my Amazon tabs. What is the world coming to when you wake up, visit Amazon, and there's an old sneaker left lying around. Probably some bunch of Amazon employees up late playing video games in their socks. No allowance for them this week. Sheesh, I tell ya.
If my normal email biz at bizstone dot com is not working for you today you can try bizstone at earthlink dot net if you need to email me. Thanks!

Back in 2000 it was cool to have your own domain. And it's easier, don't get me wrong. But now it's cool to have a beat URL like:

It means: "I'm on the fringe, man. I'm geek-chic but I don't put any money into it because I know what's up. I'm just crashing here while I blog, then I'm out." Kids today.

Dr. Kazuo Eda has figured out a way to convert food to electricity within our bodies. These bio-nano cells could be used to power "on board" medical devices like pacemakers or hearing aids. Nice!

Rocco DiSpirito's American Express sponsored blog. Hey, OPEN: The Small Business Network (SM) should offer Typepad style centralized blogging for small business types. That would be wicked innovative.
TIME Magazine: "Then Dean's forces burst from their blogs (weblogs are the jungle drums of the Internet age) and made themselves heard in the old-fashioned language the political establishment understands: money."

This just in: AOL singles out Xanga bloggers; disables images and music: "AOL is blocking all remote linking by Xanga users. In other words, you can no longer host images and music on your AOL account and use them on your Xanga account. You can still use these images and music files on other sites - just not on Xanga.com." Xanga officials suspect possible conspiracy. Agent Mulder is on the case.
Boston Phoenix Media Blog: "Notes and observations on the press, politics, culture, technology, and more."
Being Jennifer Garrett means driving sixteen hours to Ohio and blogging when you get there. Nice!

Hey, I just had an idea: BlogBucks™. It’d be cool if Starbucks offered an innovative affiliate marketing system for bloggers. We agree to place a little Starbucks ad on our blogs and the revenue generated goes into our Starbucks Card for use at a local retail store. Could be good for other uses too. Charities perhaps.
My one month Google AdSense experiment made enough money to cover Starbucks expenses for July but I took it down. I want something that feels more bloggy and isn't a banner or a column. I think its time for some Blogads. The Google AdSense ads would be great if my site were more commercial and I loved the admin area. Okay, gotta email Henry and get things going.
