Surfarama is "an IE toolbar for bloggers and media junkies. Sort of like the Google toolbar, but it searches DAYPOP instead."

The Google Compute Project: "Put your computer to work advancing scientific knowledge" Mac users need not apply.
Nothing to do? How about a Google News Search for Dunkin' Donuts: Dunkin' Donuts expanded rollout of scones, Dunkin' Donuts fatal shooting, Car creams Dunkin' Donuts, Dunkin' Donuts to offer ice cream, Kosher Dunkin' Donuts, Man sits atop a Dunkin' Donuts for money. Dunkies news: always a good time.
I was thinking about sponsored blogging yesterday. You know, 'bargain bloggers' at eBay, 'author blogs' at Amazon, 'diet blogs' at Weight Watchers, 'running blogs' at Nike.

Big companies could build strong community and valuable content into their sites by offering personal publishing software to eager bloggers interested in staying on topic.

Some bloggers like parameters. When I was a kid, I used to ask my mom: “What should I draw?” She would say: “Draw whatever you want.” Not an acceptable answer. “Draw a truck.” Now that was a good suggestion. (I was gonna draw a truck either way.) Nevertheless, you get me. Sponsored blogs.
The Redhead: "If you don't like the way I wrote it, that's one thing, but you don't get to tell me what you think of me as a person and get effing graded on it!" There has been some debate over here at Wellesley as to how one should spell "effing." I am all for the "eff" but some have said the proper way is "f'ing." That looks like "fing" to me. Which is an entirely different looking word. Perhaps even a name. Used in a sentence: "Hi, I'm Marty Fing, manager at Circuit City, may I have your daughter's hand in marrige?"

The new Music Store that's built in to iTunes 4 is pretty cool. I usually only like one or two songs on CDs and I listen to my iPod every day. Could be a good match for me.

I'm quoted a few times in a new issue of Business 2.0 - Management by Blog? Nice, I love being called a theoretician.

New Ask Lutz! "A house costs a whole lot more than a pair of shoes." Unproffesional advice? It's damn good.
For $2, a Bottle of Wine—and Change! Make way for the Two Buck Chuck. A bottle of wine for less than a cup of Starbucks coffee. Trader Joe's rocks.

I got an email today, “Too many blogs about other peoples blogs on your site... We get that you support blogging and it’s taking over the world.” Okay, I will post more of my own stuff, but one quick thing: TypePad is a new personal publishing service by the makers of MovableType and its funded by a Japanese investment firm and a former PayPal founder. They approached Genius Labs first, but the timing was off so we passed.
Google's Eric Schmidt :: AO: "I believe that this notion of self-publishing, which is what Blogger and blogging are really about, is the next big wave of human communication. The last big wave was Web activity. Before that one it was e-mail. Instant messaging was an extension of e-mail, real-time e-mail."

Spoon Fed: "It did not seem to go well today. The judge was irritated with us; the opposing attorney objected constantly and the judge sustained every objection. Several times he was so exasperated with our witness and our line of questioning that his face turned red and he would audibly grunt and sigh."

Cable News Hotties: "Jennifer Eccleston joined fox in January of this year, and has recently been covering Operation Iraqi Freedom from the border of Jordan and Iraq. She usually reports from some outside location, where a cool nighttime breeze blows her hair across her face as she talks about her most intimate fantas- er, I mean news and stuff." (via Jason, again.)
The marathon is going by outside my window. Wellesley is the halfway point so there's lots of cheering. I'm hunched over my iBook working so I'll just pretend they are cheering for me: "Biz just wrote down another idea! Bravo!"
New Blogger will have template preview! (Preview the changes to your template before you publish.) NICE!
Harvard Fellow on CSS: "What pathetic mindless idiots you all are. Don't you get it. The Internet won't make you rich, or famous, or happy. CSS isn't a cause. You can't beat Microsoft. It doesn't matter. If you want someone to blame, blame your mommy for giving birth to you. Life sucks doesn't it." Academia: not always polite and intellectual.
Micah Alpern's latest invention is just what I was looking for. If you have a blogroll, you can now add a search box to your blog that uses Google to search just those blogs! Search Wellesley blogs.

Anne...straight from the hip I am really floored at the response I've gotten from this blog and simply wasn't prepared, as it was as much of a surprise to me as anyone else that I was put on Blogger's home page.
Like Traditional Armenian Music? "The premier CD by the Boston based Arev Armenian Folk Ensemble presents folk, patriotic and troubadour songs & dances performed with traditional Armenian musical instruments."
Boston Globe Online / Living | Arts: "Tom Berry's 'Claire Danes Poster' (Boston Theatre Works) centered on the moments before a widower leaves for his wife's funeral. Although there were lulls in the writing, taut performances by Tom Lawlor and Jason Yaitanes provided poignancy." Nice Jay!
Harvard Gazette: Dave Winer wants to get Harvard blogging.

Lawsonisms: "You agree with me that I disagree with you, meaning you disagree with yourself." What is Kottke using to come up with this stuff? I love it.
Making art with Google AdWords: Words already had some kind of exchange value, but we hardly realized it. Now there is no doubt: the word SEX is worth $3,837, the word ART, $410, and the most expensive word is FREE.

Boston is trying to put a happy face on traffic. Jen Garrett says "Sorry, but the first smiley-face plate I see, I'm going to ram them." I've seen Jen's car. There are marks on the front. Smudges. Scuffs. Very slight but right in front. From what? I haven't looked closely and I choose not to.
CNN.com: "The 1980s television series "Knight Rider" and its crime-busting, talking car are revving up for the big screen." Nice, now if we can just get the Dukes of Hazzard feature going, we'll be good.

Amazon adds Google search to its front page and Google owns Blogger. My worlds are converging. So when are we going to see blogs at Amazon? As an author, I would gladly start a companion blog and from my years in publishing I can safely say that author blogs at Amazon would be very well received by publishing houses—especially the marketing departments. I look forward to it.
Yesterday, lunch at Google was seitan paella. "Sliced seitan, diced red and yellow bell peppers, pasilla peppers, red onion and saffron, sautéed with rice pilaf and a vegetable broth." I want Google lunch!

Yahoo! Top Stories: "Saddam appeared in as many as 85 of these films under a variety of stage names, most frequently Omar Studdif," reveals the researcher. "President Hussein is the manliest of men. He would never behave in such a repugnant manner," says an Iraqi spokesman. (Omar Studdif? I wonder if that was his first pet and the street where he lived.)

Download software to repurpose your Nokia: "Girls, are you tired of spending your evening staring at your mobile, waiting for a man to call? Guys, does your girlfriend wait up all night whilst you're out with the lads, waiting for you to call her?" Purring Kitty turns your phone into a discreet... um.... well, go read about it.

I was checking to see if there were any new reviews for my book on Amazon and I came across my first Google-powered Sponsored Link: Berkley Web Strategies. Amazons says: "Sponsored Links are a kind of advertising. When you click on a Sponsored Link, we get revenue. The selection of Sponsored Links that are displayed is based upon relevance to the specific terms you look for or the products you view on our site."

I just got an email with the subject line: "when does she giggle? is his Polish rental car aching? Not!" Who wrote that, Racter? I need to look into some kind of filter.
Custom blogosphere. I wish I could give Daypop my own list of blogs so I could personalize the top blogs, top posts, top bursts, etc. Maybe I could import an initial bunch of URLs and then install a “MyPopThis!” bookmarklet in IE that helps me add more as I find them. In this manner, I create my own blogosphere. For example, “What’s on the minds of Wellesley bloggers?”

NYT article on the passing of the subway token and along with it Token Sucking (reg. req'd) via Jen Garrett who has a stylish new blog design. New design: nice. Token sucking: nasty.
Phoenix Organ Installation Diary "A diary describing the installation of a new Phoenix Digital Pipe Organ in the spring of 2003." Using a blog to keep the community up to date on a renovation and installation in the church. Great use of a blog.

I don't think I've mentioned it here but but blogging in the business community (BizBlogging) is about to be a big deal. When Google bought Blogger a record scratched, the music stopped, and business folks turned their heads towards the blogging phenomenon. I'm going to be on a panel at the Weblog Business Strategies conference this summer in Boston. Shellen's gonna be there too. Should be a good time. For blog geeks.
I went to see Fiction Plane last weekend in Cambridge and it was great. I am not familiar with doing "actual stuff" but It was fun. There was beer and music. Both were good.

If Genius Labs had extra time and money, we'd be working on a software plugin for iPods called iKaraoke - it finds the lyrics of a song and scrolls the text on your iPod while its playing so you can get drunk and sing along. Good times.
