The Times of India: Blog publishers stealing Web limelight "It's just the latest example of the power of Weblogs to shape perception among a growing audience of online readers."
Vegans: Modern Day Witches "One needn't look any further than Christ's words to see that so-called 'vegans' are nothing more than sorcerers and demons, mocking God while spitting on His Son's final supper." (via email from Jennifer Garrett)

Director Greg Yaitanes on his upcoming Children of Dune: "Try not to get hung up on such details as whether the twins are too old or too young, the eyes are too blue or not blue enough, or that the book says this and we did that. You'll end up robbing yourself of a great experience."

Daypop Top Word Bursts "Word Bursts are heightened usage of certain words in weblogs within the last couple days. They are indicators of what webloggers are writing about right now, in contrast to Top 40 and Top News which are indicators of what webloggers are linking to currently. Word Bursts can frequently indicate current events of interest that are not usually accompanied by links. Sample weblog posts accompany each word burst."
Whoa, this botched Amazon scan looks cool.

The Wellesley College Alumnae Achievement Awards were last night. There were speeches, secret service, a little protesting and even some singing. Good times were had by all. The college club even served me a super delicious vegan dinner. I'm going again tonight. No awards, just dinnah.

Gizmodo: Free iPods for Grammy winners "Grammy performers and presenters are getting gift bags filled with a ton of free gadgets, including a 20GB iPod." I need to winny a grammy.

OSLO (Reuters) - Bono named for Nobel Peace Prize "The governor of the U.S. state of Illinois who spared all inmates on death row, Pope John Paul, a Cuban dissident and Irish rock star Bono are among a near-record 150 nominees for the 2003 Nobel Peace Prize."

Australian IT - Welcome to Bloggers World: "A brisker, simpler introduction to the craft is Blogging by Biz Stone, who is more artful than his irritatingly jokey tone suggests." A backhanded compliment is a compliment, nonetheless. I take them in any form. Australia rocks Natick.
Movable Type Acquires Fax Machine; Anil Dash Predicts Future for Weblogs: "These 'diaries' could take the weblog to its next natural progression, a secure, individualized personal record of events and ideas, controlled with an intuitive, organic input system that's as unique as your own handwriting. The natural medium for such a diary would be a pocket-sized or portable form factor tablet of writing paper, perhaps bound in a durable cover."
Labs, Robots, and Giant Floating Brains: The Amazingly True Story of Blogger. In March of 2001 I interviewed Evan about the future of Blogger for WebReview. It's fun to read it now, knowing the big news.
The New York Times: "Note to self," he wrote, "When you get off this panel, you should probably comment on this."
Girlhacker: "Google could be aiming to be the main repository for corporate information storage and retrieval, with their search appliance for a start. Adding Blogger's functionality to that mix gives corporations another level of information management (if they use it)."

Google buys Pyra. An updated version of the big news.
I went to work out at the Wellesley College sports center today. No dice. They're setting up for an event called the Dyke Ball. Scantily clad women, $1 kissing booths, and events afterwards that apparently involve removing what little clothing there is. Oh yeah, and men are allowed but only in drag. I wonder if Austin Powers will be making an appearance? Nobody from Genius Labs will be in attendance. (Secret government activities.)
Add me to the list of bloggers who will be writing for the newly launched Tekka, a Web magazine about enjoying new media. Nice.
Ev hasn't commented on it yet but Google bought Pyra Labs, the company that makes Blogger! Huge news.

Nude Weblog Awards: "Sure, it's a ripoff of all the other awards popping up and taking up valuable webspace. But this time, there's nudity involved."
Corn on the cob is pretty good. There should be more things offered on the cob.
"Would you like that to stay or to go?"
"On the cob, please."
We're working on this in the labs.

Blogging for Dollars (a.k.a. Chapter 7 in my book) "When blogs first started, these real-time online diaries were the preserve of the techno-literate. The advent of easy-to-use publishing services such as Blogger, launched in August 1999, began to bring it into the mainstream."
If were still in LA, I would check out Live from the Blogosphere. Evan Williams is "The Blogfather." That's good stuff.

NYC Craigslist: Enemies Wanted. Shellen, don't get any ideas. Punk. I'm still your nemesis.
WellesleyWeek - February 10 - 17, 2003 I got some front-page campus press. Nice.
There are 83 Wellesley College students (including me, although I'm staff) that have Xanga blogs and 10 Wellesley Alums that have 'em. Cool.

There's a guy outside my apartment jamming away on a harmonica. He's good. But I know he's really a secret government agent sent here to spy on me. I'm sharp like that. Foolish mortals.

Can you help me out? I remember a link a few weeks ago. Someone had made an illustration of how many people are in the world, of those, how many had web access, and of those, how many were bloggers. Or something like that. If anyone has the link, could you email me? Thanks!

The BBC and Ananova are reporting that a Japanese scientist has invented an invisibility cloak. Its more like a freaky-freazy raincoat. Nevertheless, it's the first step towards actual invisibility. Nice! This is way better than the Segway hospital scooter.

Microadvertising takes a new turn with Rent My Chest: "I believe that I have the perfect chest for your message. So, if you PayPal me $20.00, I'll paint your note on my pecs with a black, purple, brown, green, red, or blue marker. You get to keep the 640x480 JPEG and use it as you see fit (or unfit, as my chest would be)."

Hey, thanks for the mention, Blogger! I wrote a book that I wished I'd had starting out with my blog and I had fun doing it. I hope Blogger bloggers find it fun and helpful.
